FORT MEADE, Maryland (AP) ? The prosecution will start presenting its case Saturday against the young soldier blamed for the largest leak of classified material in American history.
The long-awaited court-martial of Pfc. Bradley Manning may hinge on whether the U.S. government overzealously stamped "secret" on material posing no national security risk.
The trial is moving ahead after the defense asked the presiding officer to step aside because of alleged bias. Lt. Col. Paul Almanza rejected the request.
Manning is a one-time intelligence analyst stationed in Baghdad who is accused of leaking hundreds of thousands of sensitive items: Iraq and Afghanistan war logs, State Department cables and a classified military video of a 2007 American helicopter attack in Iraq that killed 11 men, including a news photographer and his driver.
